Let’s get started…
About Me:
As the youngest of four siblings, I became adept at observing others and asking what makes people who they are. I turned this curiosity into a quest to learn how the mind worked and our social and emotional parts formed. While studying psychology, I zeroed in on child development to learn how attachment shapes our identity at different times in our lives. I continued my training into social work in order to better understand the ecological and systemic influences and how they influence our experience in society. I was determined to find practical and effective treatments for people who have survived complex trauma and adverse childhood experiences only to find themselves reeling in their adult lives, unable to shake the patterns of intergererational abuse they experienced.
I have spent over two decades seeking education and working directly with individuals, children and families, and searching for the best trauma-informed and trauma-focused treatment plans available to therapists. I use evidence-based therapies that I have been trained in to show how our body works when in different states, and how this interacts with our thoughts, emotions and our nervous system. I share this with my clients to help reduce the judgment and stigma associated with trauma, whether living in chaos or feeling frozen and dissociated, while expanding their self-awareness into how they can transform their lives.
One of the first things you may notice when you meet me is that I’m genuinely interested in your story. I listen with patience, and I’m here, without judgment, to guide you towards your goals in therapy.
I have worked in various fields from child welfare, domestic violence sector and children mental health. Things that ground me are my family, baking; and most importantly keeping tuned up with my own therapist to find a balanced version of myself.
Education/Training:
I practice through an anti-oppressive, anti-discriminatory framework and will provide all people with ethical service. With over 20 years of experience working with people at their most vulnerable, I find it is much more effective to customize treatment to meet the diverse needs of each client.
I feel strongly that in order to release ourselves from the pain and triggers we experience in our daily lives, we need to create safety and understanding with our present and past parts. This process is deeply healing and has life altering effects. I customize treatment plans by using my training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (somatic) and Eye-movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to strengthen your mind-body connection, while combining psychodynamic, attachment and polyvagal theories as needed. I also utilize behavioural and emotion-focused modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy when required.
Today is as good as any…
